Description

Manual Post Treatment & Flushing Line

This plant was installed at Chromalloy UK's Derby plant and was professional decommissioning by Riley Surface World engineers when the facility was closed. The plant and ancillaries have been moved to storage and photographed at Riley Surface World's UK facility.

General Description

A manual process line installed circa 2015 which is in excellent condition.

Designed to support the application of platinum plating on turbine blades but offering the possibility of conversion to process other high value components.

The equipment is arranged in a straight line. The work is carried through the line by an overhead electric hoist with manual pendant control and 125kg SWL.

A sophisticated supervisory control and data acquisition(SCADA) system is provided incorporating a Siemens PLC linked to a Simatic touchscreen HMI to provide the man machine interface (MMI).

This represents a good opportunity to acquire a process line in excellent condition offering considerable savings over the buy new price.

Principle of Operation

The purpose of this line is to completely remove all chemical residues after processing in the automatic platinum electroplating line. This ensures the complete cleanliness of the components and reclaim of the very high value platinum plating solution.

Components are manually unloaded from jigs by an operator and conforming anodes are removed. The components and anodes are flushed and washed and trapped platinum liquors reclaimed.

The typical indicative operation sequence is as follows:

  • Jigs are moved between stations on flight bars using the overhead hoist and wireless pendant.
  • At the end of the line is space for a load/unload trolley station.
  • Component jigs incorporate conforming anodes.
  • Jigged components are manually transferred to the post plate ultrasonic tank 20.
  • Then they are manually transferred to the hot water rinse tank 21.
  • Components are removed from the jigs on the process work table 19.
  • Components are manually fitted into a moulded rubber boot type jig and manually flushed in the Process Component Flushing Tank 18.
  • Flight bar with jigs and anodes manually transferred into the process anode wash tank 17.
  • Platinum plating solution residues are collected from tanks 17/20 in the reclaim tank 16.
  • Then back to the process work table for jigs to be manually unloaded from the flight bars.

  • 1 off Caltherm electric recirculated hot air drying oven of internal size 945mm x 800mm x 850mm deep, complete with top flange constructed in Stainless Steel.
  • The body of the dryer will be manufactured from material supported with additional strengthening.
  • Dryer lagged externally.
  • The dryer will be raised off the floor by stainless steel adjustable feet.

Tank will be supplied with:

  • 1 Set Electric heating equipment complete with protection and control, contactors RCD and MCB units.
  • 1 Set Forced air recirculation by electric fan estimated at a turnover rate of 40 times the oven volume per minute.
  • 1 Set Process temperature control with overtemperature protection.
  • 3 Sets Polypropylene flight bar location brackets.
  • 1 Off Actuated stainless steel lid.

Station No. 2 Process Hot Water Rinse (Tank 21)

  • Temperature: 50°c
  • 1 Off Single compartment stainless steel tank of internal size 800mm x 800mm x 650mm deep, complete with top flange.
  • The body of the tank will be manufactured from material supported with additional strengthening.
  • Tank lagged externally.
  • Tank has internal corner weir.
  • The tank will be raised off the floor by stainless steel support stand.

Tank will be supplied with:

  • 1 Set Electric heating equipment complete with protection and control, contactors RCD and MCB units.
  • 1 Set Solution level switches for alarms and heater protection.
  • 1 Set Process temperature control (one hard wired safety watchdog and one through PLC).
  • 3 Sets Polypropylene flight bar location brackets.
  • 1 Set Water supply with manual on/off isolation valve and level control for auto top-up.
  • 1 Off Actuated stainless steel lid.
  • 1 Set Siebec filtration.

Tank is extracted from the rear.

Station No. 3 Process Post Plate Ultrasonics (Tank 20)

  • Temperature: 50°c
  • 1 Off Single compartment polypropylene tank of internal size 800mm x 800mm x 650mm deep, complete with top flange.
  • The body of the tank will be manufactured from material supported with additional strengthening.
  • Tank lagged externally.
  • The tank will be raised off the floor by stainless steel support stand.

Tank will be supplied with:

  • 1 Set Electric heating equipment complete with protection and control, contactors RCD and MCB units.

  • 1 Off Polypropylene work surface of size 750mm x 850mm deep

Station No. 5 Process Component Flushing (Tank 18)

  • 1 Off Single compartment polypropylene tank of internal size 800mm x 800mm x 650mm deep, complete with top flange.
  • The body of the tank will be manufactured from material supported with additional strengthening.
  • Tank has a sloping hopper base to a central drain covered by a perforated polypropylene work support plate.
  • The tank will be raised off the floor by stainless steel support stand.

Tank will be supplied with:

  • 1 Off Manual water top up.
  • 1 Off Manual drain valve.

Station No. 6 Process Anode Wash (Tank 17)

  • 1 Off Single compartment polypropylene tank of internal size 800mm x 800mm x 650mm deep, complete with top flange.
  • The body of the tank will be manufactured from material supported with additional strengthening.
  • Tank has a sloping hopper base to a central drain covered by a perforated polypropylene work support plate.
  • The tank will be raised off the floor by stainless steel support stand.

Tank will be supplied with:

  • 2 Sets Polypropylene flight bar location brackets.
  • 1 Set Water supply with manual on/off isolation valve and level control for top-up.
  • 1 Set Eductor agitation.
  • 1 Set Siebec filtration.
  • 1 Off Manual water top up.
  • 1 Off Manual drain valve.

Station No. 7 Process Reclaim (Tank 16)

  • Temperature: 88°c
  • 1 Off Single compartment PVDF tank of internal size 800mm x 800mm x 650mm deep, complete with top flange.
  • The body of the tank will be manufactured from material supported with additional strengthening.
  • Tank lagged externally.
  • The tank will be raised off the floor by stainless steel support stand.

Track Support Structure

The runway track is manufactured from pained steel beams supported by stanchions from the floor. Cross bracing is provided as required.

The self-supporting structure is in bolted sections lined and levelled onto the factory floor without the need for special foundations.

The complete structure is manufactured from painted steel suitable for the operating environment.

Drip Shields

Tanks have PP drip shields in between to stop solution spillage along with full length consoling at the front and back to give a very attractive and functional appearance.

Fume Exhaust Systems

The extraction system includes the following major items of equipment:

  • Fume exhaust hoods
  • Exhaust dampers
  • Interconnecting trunking

Fumes are extracted via rear lip hoods, into a plenum chamber which runs the full length of the line and forms a rear canopy, then travelling onwards through riser ducts into a manifold running at high level at the rear of the plant.

Specification of Equipment

CONTROL CONSOLE

The central control console is located adjacent to the load/unload area.

ELECTRICAL WIRING

All electrical wiring between the central control console and field electrical items is installed in corrosion resistant PVC or stainless-steel trunking suitably supported.

MECHANICAL SERVICES

One set mechanical services serving the previously described plant complete with all necessary supports and brackets.

Hard and electronic copies of the available manuals have been provided by Chromalloy.
