Turning Surplus Machinery into Lasting OEM Partnerships

When our buying team came across this rare, top-of-the-range cleaning system with fewer than 5,000 baskets processed, we knew it was a unique opportunity. Through Riley Surface World’s industry connections, this find has been transformed into a high-precision cleaning investment that delivers outstanding benefits for both the customer and the OEM.
The Machine That Started It - Ecoclean EcoCWave Automatic Cleaning System
Designed for exceptional cleaning performance, energy efficiency, and low running costs, this EcoCWave cleaning system is one of the largest and most fully featured models of the Ecoclean cleaning range. Equipped with a vacuum-tight chamber, three separate tanks for cleaning and rinsing, high-frequency ultrasonics, 100% drying capability, an advanced Aquaclean system and heat recovery technology, it not only offers consistent clean results but also significantly reduces chemical, water, and energy consumption. Although one of the most expensive models of the EcoCWave range new, it was available for a fraction of the price with barely any use.
Previously used in the medical industry, one of the highlight features is its basket size. Separating it from similar high precision, enclosed cleaners, its work envelope was able to cater to a basket size of 670mm x 480mm x 300mm, an especially large work area that created the opportunity for cleaning an increased size range of components.
Then finally, considering we had the EcoCwave serviced by official OEM Ecoclean UK, this machine was ready to be someone’s chance to invest in quality cleaning machinery without the lead time and price tag.
Who Brought It? - PSS Steering & Hydraulics
With a long history in steering, hydraulic, and mechanical components, PSS has built its reputation on the value of both new & remanufactured parts. Since 1971, the company has been supplying a wide range of used products from steering boxes and pumps to power steering racks, differentials, and hydraulic cylinders; all subjected to the same rigorous quality tests as brand-new components. Recognising the strength of the used market (just as we do), PSS ensures that every part meets the highest standards of reliability and performance.
One constant challenge, however, lies in the condition of second hand components. A steering rod, for example, typically arrives heavily coated in oil and grease after years of service. Making the cleaning process critical not only to remove contamination, but to restore every part to a pristine state ready for remanufacturing. For PSS, precision cleaning is the essential first step in delivering remanufactured components that perform like new.
So when the opportunity arose to acquire a like-new, large work envelope cleaning system, offering a more advanced process than their existing set-up, it presented PSS with an investment opportunity. In the end, the combination of cutting-edge capability and an attractive price point made the investment worthwhile, turning the risk of purchasing an unfamiliar machine into a strategic step forward.
Establishing A New Customer & OEM Relationship
The cleaning investment didn’t stop with the first purchase. After installing the EcoCWave, PSS quickly saw the benefits of its precision cleaning capabilities and soon decided to add a second unit to their operation. Having only had the one machine available in our used stock, PSS turned directly to Ecoclean to source a brand new model, a testament to the trust and value they had found in the system.
To ensure long-term reliability, PSS partnered with Ecoclean for ongoing servicing and maintenance of both machines.
The benefits of partnering with Riley Surface World are clear for all parties:
- OEMs gain new customers and long-term relationships.
- Manufacturers can invest in well-supported, quality machinery at reduced prices.
- Riley Surface World enables satisfied customers.
What Has Happened Since?
Following the EcoCWave investment, our expertise in used machinery once again came into play as we supported PSS with the removal of surplus equipment that the new systems replaced.
A selection of aqueous cleaners are now available for other businesses looking to upgrade their surface finishing capabilities, all while streamlining the transition for PSS with the additional perk of unlocking additional funds to reinvest in future projects.
How We Can Offer Both Customers & OEMs Opportunities
This case is a perfect example of how Riley Surface World creates value for both customers and OEMs through our used machinery marketplace. By offering high-quality equipment at competitive prices, we give customers the opportunity to upgrade their surface finishing capabilities more cost-effectively, while also helping OEMs generate renewed value from surplus units.
