Seeing a Great Deal More with MRI Scanner Composite Manufacture

Polartech MRI Scanner Composite Manufacture

Lentus Composites and the Polar Technology group are long-term Riley Surface World customers. For many years, they have bought and sold brand new and second-hand machinery for their rapidly evolving projects.

Their latest project evolved from a successful R&D trial to full production, and Riley Surface World’s Romer ovens essential to enabling the scaling of their output volume.

As the market leader in manufacturing a critical component in MRI scanners, Polar Technology have designed a way to reduce the weight and cost for a diagnostic machine essential in modern medicine.

The components Polar Technology set, cure and machine are cryogenic suspension ring systems. These large rings secure the magnets that rotate within the MRI scanner so anyone using an MRI lies in the middle of them and will be familiar with the sound of them rotating.

What Will the Ovens Be Used for Now?

Looking to expand the success of their medical composite components, the Romer Composite Ovens will be integrated into a manufacturing cell to produce advanced composite rings designed for MRI scanners.

The composite rings are handled in and out of the ovens by robotic systems that include vacuum manifolds. Process performance is recorded, and the component parts of the cell coordinate activity to semi-automate handling and manufacturing these high quality, bulky components.

The five new production cells have been designed and built by Polar Technology as an iteration from a successful R&D cell with a Romer Composite oven into full production of five specialist cells.

Working with Proven Technology

Having used a Romer Oven from Riley Surface World Polar Technology committed to five more ovens to integrate into the production scale cells.

Opting for a choice of two models from our standard range of Romer ovens, Polar Technology included forced air extraction and controlled ramp cooling for optimised temperature control, as well as the ThPID system that optimises performance and power consumption
