Furnace Description

General design

The Electric Heat Treatment Furnace design uses an arrangement of elements that combine under load and over load element firing that provides the best possible control of heat transfer, temperature uniformity and fuel efficiency.

Furnace Structure

The hot face of the furnace is constructed using low mass ceramic fibre panels, 1400°C grade, installed at a density of 170kg/ m3 in the sidewalls and roof. This lining design is well proven in use and provides a stable, shrink resistant structure. The Manual Vertical Lift doors at each end of the furnace have been designed to provide a natural compression seal when closed, minimising the possibility of heat leakage from the furnace.

Firing Equipment

The firing of the furnace will be using Multi Leg Spiral Elements mounted on ceramic support tubes which will be in the roof and base of the furnace. The heating elements will be positioned from the inlet to the outlet of the furnace into Three control zones.

Instrumentation

The instruments and controls are housed in a wall mounted panel adjacent to the furnace within a distance of 2m, containing furnace controllers, over-temperature controller and indicators. Also housed in the panel will be Contactors, Main switch fuse, Control relays etc.

Automatic one Control

The furnace is equipped with three automatic temperature control zones that maintains the furnace at the set-point generated by the selected programme profile.

Furnace Structure comprising:

  • Pre-fabricated (sidewall, roof and doors) furnace sections containing the ceramic fibre lining of the furnace, comprising:
  • High density ceramic fibre panels Backed ceramic fibre blanket
  • Low thermal mass insulation bricks and cement Refractory bricks
  • Corderite tile product support bed Element support system

Equipment for Electric Heating comprising:

  • Set spiral elements mounted on ceramic support tubes for roof and base
  • Self contained, fully assembled control panel containing the following main equipment
  • Zone controllers - Eurotherm 3200 series
  • Zone Over-Temperature controllers - Eurotherm 3200i 3 - Electrical load ammeters
  • Timer
  • Temperature chart recorder
  • Set of push buttons and indicators
  • Set of fuses
  • Temperature recorder
  • Set of thermocouples and compensating cable
